Kareena, who received the Entertainer of the Decade award at NDTV Indian of the Year, said: "It's good to be on the other side but I regret I don't get to ask questions like when are you getting married or when are you having a baby."
That gentle barb aside, Kareena said that the role she plays in the film, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn, is an extremely sensitive one, and her performance has been inspired by NDTV's Barkha Dutt.
Kareena said she didn't cut her hair to look like Barkha but was nevertheless inspired by Barkha's strong personality.
Shooting Satyagraha in Bhopal has meant that Kareena and husband of a few months Saif Ali Khan have spent much of the last few months apart. When asked about how they coped, Kareena said:"I am a woman in love and when you are in love, you cross boundaries." She also joked, "Saif and I contribute to air fare sales."
On a more sombre note, Kareena said: "I salute India's Braveheart and the courage with which she fought, and her family for their dignity."
NDTV Indian of the Year was dedicated to the Indian woman, and to the memory of the 23-year-old medical student who was gang-raped and brutalized on a Delhi bus last December, and who died after a heroic battle for her life some days later. Her father said at the award show: "She was no less than a son to us."
Kareena's responded to a question on the marriage barrier in Bollywood with: "The fact that there are two married actresses on this stage receiving awards should answer your question." Point taken, Kareena.
The actress who Kareena was referring to was Sridevi, NDTV's Entertainer of the Year, who made a searing comeback with English Vinglish last year. Sridevi quit movies 15 years ago when she married producer Boney Kapoor and settled down to being a wife and mother - till now.
Kareena said Sridevi was the reason she became an actress, and spoke about how, as a young girl, she used to dance to movie songs featuring Sridevi in front of her bathroom mirror.
