She used to walk around in night gowns on the sets of her sister’s movies. Kareena benefitted a lot from Karisma Kapoor’s hard work when she entered the industry. Then, of course, she made her own journey. Before we started work on Refugee, I wasn’t on talking terms with Karisma for a bit. Bebo came up to me at a party and put the cold war to rest. I had no option but to make an outfit for her. I was also there when she gave her first shot in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (she later opted out). All her best movies have been with me. She looked gorgeous in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Asoka, Jab We Met, 3 Idiots, Chameli and even Chammak challo in RA.One. Today I’m right besides her when she’s working on Dharma Productions Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.

She has a razzmatazz attitude, she’s a star. Bebo will just go on the sets and work it out instantly. According to me, she was the perfect package in Jab We Met (JWM). She made a plain t-shirt and salwar in JWM iconic. She’s worn red in all her iconic songs (Kehdo naa Kehdo naa, Chammak challo etc). She insists on bright colours unlike her sister’s preference for white. I’ll get a text from her out of nowhere reminding me of bright colours. Take Bodyguard, it was so vibrant and colourful. Or Nagada nagada in JWM; we put together an orange dupatta, a pink kurta and a pista green salwar. It blended so well that the look worked five years post its release.

She hates bulky clothes and I don’t think she likes purple too much either. I’m not a designer who wants to clad anyone with heavy embroidery or over-the-top constructions. I like my actresses sensuous, feminine and slim. However, I was never for Bebo’s size zero figure. I got excited to see her put on some weight. She looks exceptional in traditional wear. Look at that black saree in Heroine. What an impact it made.

One amazing thing about both Karisma and Kareena is that they don’t take inspirations from anyone, let alone copy one another. They have their own fashion minds which also helps me as a designer to keep them different.

And of course, she made the coolest bride ever. Every function had my outfits. Even her wedding outfit, which was restored by Ritu Kumar came to me for the final restorations. Being part of that wedding felt like family. In fact, two dance rehearsals were at my house. My house felt like a shaadi ka ghar. It was an absolute delight.
